Equal records are broken with the NFL's tie-breakers that results decide: head-to-head, division, common-game and conference records, strength of victory and strength of schedule, with each division's best team taken first for wild cards. How does the NFL playoff bracket work?

Seven teams from each conference make it. The four division winners are seeds 1 to 4, ranked by record; the three best of the remaining teams are wild cards, seeds 5 to 7, even when one has a better record than a division winner. Seed 1 skips Wild Card weekend. In every game the better seed is at home, until the Super Bowl at a neutral site.

What does re-seeding mean?

The Divisional round isn't fixed in advance. After Wild Card weekend, seed 1 hosts the lowest-seeded team still alive, and the other two winners play at the better seed's stadium. That's why the bracket has no lines from the Wild Card games straight into the Divisional round. Pick your three Wild Card winners here and the page places them for you.

When will the seeds be final?

After the last Week 18 game on Sunday, January 10. Until then, “Current seeds” shows how the teams would be seeded from the standings on the date printed on the sheet. The blank bracket works any time: write in the seeds once they're set.

How do I run a bracket pool at work or with family?

Print one blank sheet per person, or send this page's link. Everyone fills in winners before the first Wild Card kickoff. The sheet prints a simple scoring line that rewards later rounds more (1, 2, 4, 8 points per right pick, 30 at most) and a tie-breaker: the Super Bowl's total points.
