How the Standard Possession Order runs

The possessory conservator (here, Home B) has the child on the 1st, 3rd and 5th weekends of every month, from Friday at 6 p.m. to Sunday at 6 p.m. A weekend belongs to the month its Friday is in, so a month with five Fridays gives two weekends in a row: January 29 and February 5, 2027. During the school year Home B also has Thursday evenings, 6 to 8 p.m.

Holidays and vacations come first. Home B has spring break in even-numbered years and Thanksgiving in odd ones; Christmas splits at noon on December 28, with the first half Home B's in even years. Summer is July 1 to 31 when Home B gave no notice by April 1. Mother's Day and Father's Day weekends go to that parent every year.

Expanded or standard times

Since 2021, when the parents live 50 miles or less apart, Texas courts use the expanded times unless the possessory conservator declines them or the court finds them not in the child's best interest; parents up to 100 miles apart can elect them too. Weekends that start on a school day run from Friday's dismissal to Monday morning, and Thursday becomes an overnight; in most orders a Monday school holiday stretches the weekend to Tuesday morning. Pick your order's times beside the calendar; the nights and totals follow.

Set your school's dates

Spring break, Thanksgiving and Christmas start when school lets out, so the calendar asks for your district's dates (the defaults are typical ones). Christmas is counted by the year of its December 28: the first days of January 2027 are the second half of Christmas 2026, which is the managing conservator's.

Questions

Who has Christmas in 2027?

2027 is an odd year: the managing conservator has the first half (from the day school lets out to noon December 28) and the possessory conservator the second half (from noon December 28 until 6 p.m. the day before school starts again).

Who has Thanksgiving in 2027?

The possessory conservator: in odd-numbered years, from 6 p.m. on the day school lets out before Thanksgiving to 6 p.m. the following Sunday.

What about summer?

If the possessory conservator gives written notice by April 1, they choose 30 days of summer in up to two blocks; without notice it's July 1 to July 31. The calendar shows the July default; add the noticed summer as a stretch for the possessory conservator and it replaces July.

Does this match the Attorney General's calendar?

Its weekends match the 1st, 3rd and 5th Fridays the Office of the Attorney General shades for 2027. The OAG calendar doesn't apply holidays, summer or the expanded times; this one does, with your school's dates.
