How to run a weekly pick'em pool

Every game of NFL Week 5, a column for each player and the rules, on one sheet for the office, the family or the group chat.

Print the week's sheetOne sheet holds 10 players. Type their names beside the sheet before printing, or write them across the top.
Collect the picksEach player writes the team they pick in their column for every game, and a guess at the tie-breaker game's total points. Many pools take the whole sheet before Thursday's kickoff.
Score it after Monday nightCircle every right pick and count each column. In a confidence pool, add up the points of the right picks instead.
Name the winnerMost points wins the week. If players are level, the closest guess at the tie-breaker's total points wins. Next week's sheet is up as soon as Monday's game is final.

What is a pick'em pool?

Everyone picks the winner of every NFL game that week, with no point spreads. Each right pick is a point, the most points wins the week, and a pool can keep a season total too. It's the simplest office football pool to run: one sheet, a pen and the Monday night score.

How does a confidence pool work?

Each player also ranks their picks by how sure they are: with 15 games this week, the surest pick gets 15 points and the least sure gets 1, each number used once. A right pick scores its number. Choose “Confidence” beside the sheet to print a points box in every square.

What's the tie-breaker?

The total points scored in the week's last game, Bills @ Rams on Mon Oct 12, 8:15 PM ET. The closest guess wins. Some pools say closest without going over: write your pool's rule on the sheet.

When are picks due?

Before each game kicks off: this week's first is Buccaneers @ Cowboys on Thu Oct 8, 8:15 PM ET. Many pools collect the whole sheet before then, so nobody picks after seeing a result. The times on the sheet follow your time zone; change it with the clock beside the sheet.

What if a game ends in a tie?

Regular-season games tied after overtime stay tied. On this sheet a tied game counts for no one: nobody gets its point, in a confidence pool nobody gets its points.

A note on money

Pick'em pools are just as much fun for bragging rights or lunch. If your group plays for money, the rules on pools depend on where you live, so check your local laws first. PrintDates doesn't collect entries or handle money.
